Prior to 1880 Amatuer boxing had no governing body amatuer championships had been held since 1867 at three weights Light, Middle and Heavy under the Marquis of Queensberry Rules which were primitive and vaque.Pictured  is founder member John H. Amateur Boxing Assocation Quarter Finals 1948/49 season Northern Counties v Scottish at Liverpool Stadium
