Prior to 1880 Amatuer boxing had no governing body amatuer championships had been held since 1867 at three weights Light, Middle and Heavy under the Marquis of Queensberry Rules which were primitive and vaque.Pictured  is founder member John H. Amateur Boxing Assocation Quarter Finals 1948/49 season Northern Counties v Scottish at Liverpool Stadium

This quarter finals held on tuesday 12th april 1949 saw Sgt M McCrindle from Bantaskin A.B.C. , B Creaghan from Sheffield ; J Fee from Edinburgh and P. C. Galvin from Liverpool police . As always if anybody was there or knew any of the boxers please leave me a comment many thanks.

First contest of the evening saw Dan Blackwell in a four-threes against Julius Rafael in a Middleweight contest with Blackwell winning 40-36.

Second contest of the night saw Dan Carr up against Radoslav Baca in a Four-threes with Carr winning in 2-15 of round 2 after referee Clarke Joslyn waved it off.
 Next up was a Lightweight contest between Liam Richards and Elemir Rafael in a four-threes which saw Richards win with a 40-36 points victory.
Last contest of the evening saw Nick Blackwell stop Roberto Blazo in 2-44 of round 7 of scheduled 10 to win the International Masters Middleweight Belt.
