As always, I'd like to start by introducing one of the behind-the-scenes team that helped to make this event happen. David Walter is a timekeeper for the British Boxing Board of Control.



The first bout of the evening in Torquay was a six, twos between Kristine Shergold and Galina Gumliiska which saw Shergold winning in round four as Gumliiska was unable to continue

The second match of the night saw Ben Wakeman agains Wolverhampton's Carl Allen making his 116th professional appearance. Wakeman was declared the victor with a 40-35 points advantage.

Next up was a contest between Kelvin Young and Tommy Marshal, fought over six two minute rounds, with Young taking a 59-56 points victory.

Contest number four saw Liam Power vs. Gavin Brook over six two minute rounds, with Power loosing in the fourth thanks to a technical count out.

Next up was a match between Jamie Speight and Sheffield's Daniel Thorpe making his 129th professional appearance. Speight won a 60-54 point victory.

The sixth contest was between Sam Smart and Danny Goode. The outcome was a win for Smart in the fifth round.

The headline fight of the evening saw Bridgewater's Dean Mills andMark McCullough from High Wicombe contesting for the British Masters Lightweight title over ten three minute rounds with McCullough taking a narrow 95-94 points victory.

Famous fights

This is my original copy of boxing newspaper Famous Fights: Past and Present. The paper ran from 1901 to 1904 and is eagerly sought by collectors and historians alike.

On the front cover of this copy is a fight between Frank Slavin and Jem Smith. Although the condition of this copy isn't perfect, it is complete. like much of my collection, I am unsure of its value so would be interested in any comments you might have about this.

Muhammad Ali Vs. Joe Bugner programme

This programme was presented by Viewsport live from Las Vegas on the night of Wednesday 14th February 1973.

Although the scorecards were lopsided, Bugner fought well and he won the respect of the boxing media and public alike.

This Sunday afternoon show started with a six two cruiserweight contest between Nick Gigg, who made his professional debut, and Mark Lewis. Referee Reece Carter stopped the contest in the third round as Nick Gigg was unable to continue.

Next up was a six twos light middleweight contest between Liam Power and Kevin McCauley, the referee scored the contest 59 - 56 in favour of McCauley.

The final fight of the afternoon saw Bristol's Danny Butler in an eight twos middleweight contest against Adam Wilcox. The referee stopped the fight in the seventh round giving butler the victory

Before I go into detail on the show, I'd like to introduce you to some more of the people who work behind the scenes.

Picured  above right is fellow BBBC inspector Jeff Barrett, below right is Nick Laidman who is also an inspector

The first bout of the evening was a cracking contest over four three minute rounds between Matt Jack and Danny Goode, with Jack taking a narrow 38 - 37 points win.

Next up was another four threes between Peter Barney and George Jupp which was won by Jubb 40 - 37.

The third match of the night was a light-middleweight contest over four threes between Daryl Setterfield and Ryan Toms, with Settlefield taking 40 - 36 victory.

Next up was a four threes light heavyweight bout between Sam Couzens and Jamie Ambler with Couzens taking a narrow 39 - 38 points decision.

The fifth fight of the evening was a four threes between Wayne Goddard and Sergej Rozakmens which ended with Goddard stopping Rozakmens in the second round.

The last fight of the night saw Tony Oakey (pictured left) challenge Michael Banbula for the British Masters Light Heavyweight Championship.

The fight was for ten three minute rounds, and was to be Tony's last fight win or loose. The fight went the distance with Bambula taking the victory with a 97 - 95 point advantage.

I would like to wish Tony all the best for the future. P.S. Tony - was it a boy or a girl?

This was my most recent show working as an inspector with the BBBC.

Before I go into the details of the contests, I would like to introduce you to a few people who work behind the scenes at this and other boxing events.

On the left is Steve Bush who is the whip. Centre is Sandra Rowe AKA Midge. On the right ex boxer Claire "Skins" Cooper.

The first bout of the evening was a flyweight contest between Alicja Dabrowska and Juliette Winter, who fought six two minute rounds with Alicja taking a 59 - 57 points win.

Next up was a super-featherweight match between Liam Richards and Dan Carr, with Carr making his debut.  Richards won a 58-55 point victory.

The evening's third fight was a middleweight contest over four three minute rounds, seeing Nick Blackwell take 40-36 verdict over Lithuanian Tomas Grublys.

The fourth contest of the evening matched light-welterweight boxers Chris Higgs and Mark McCullogh, with Chris keeping his unbeaten record with a 58 - 57 verdict.

The fifth match of the evening was between middleweights Kelvin Young and Paul Brown. Brown sent Young crashing to the deck in the first round and Young was unable to make the count.

The final contest of the evening was between super-middleweights Marlon Reid and Steffan Hughes, resulting in Hughes stopping Reid one minute and fifty two seconds into round four.

Introducing Noureddine Meddoun

In my role  as an inspector with the British Boxing Board of Control, I occasionally have to assess the ability and fitness of boxers who wish to turn professional. I recently met and assessed a Moroccan boxer called Noureddine Meddoun, here are a few facts about Noureddine:

Hometown now:                 Swindon, Wiltshire

Marital Status:                   Married

Noureddine works full time for Thamesdown Recycling in Cricklade, Swindon.  He is just embarking on a Professional career after a very successful Amateur career, which resulted in him fighting at International level for his country, Morocco on many occasions.
